The first of the Standards, this square-case model from 1898, has no decal and sports suitcase-like clips on its square lid, giving it the nickname "Suitcase Standard" or "Square-top Standard". |

Very early models have no gear cover, and the serial number, not yet stamped into the ID plate, is located on a small raised area on the top of the bed plate, near the right-rear corner. |

Notice that the end-gate arm is straight, unlike the later 'A' models, which have a downward slant to them toward the front.
Also notice that the reproducer attaches via two retaining clips, unlike the screw that held it in place on the later models. |
